ECDHD Environmental Health Program

WHAT WE'RE ABOUT

The Environmental health program at ECDHD strives to keep the public aware of environmental issues in its area. ECDHD educates the public about mold and mildew issues, and enforces the Clean Indoor Air Act in our four county area. The environmental health program also offers Lead Education classes to educate parents about the dangers of lead poisoning in young children. The public is educated on proper disposal of mercury. Radon risk awareness and reduction is another area this program works with. An annual program on radon risk awareness is given to the public in our area as well as literature on this topic.

  • Radon Risk Awareness and Reduction Classes
  • Short-term radon test kits may be available free-of-charge
  • Drop-off location in each of the four counties to bring in mercury containing items for proper disposal. Sites to drop off these items include: East Central District Health Department in Columbus, Alegant Health Care in Schuyler, Sheriff's Office in Fullerton and Boone County Health Center in Albion.
  • Clean Indoor Air Act inspections of public places in Platte, Boone, Colfax and Nance counties
  • Educational information on mold and moisture
  • Testing of private well water for nitrates (non-certifiable)

COST OF SERVICES

Testing of private well water for nitrates has a $1.00 charge per sample. No other service has a charge attached at this time.
