DISEASE INVESTIGATION AND SURVEILLANCE
WHAT WE'RE ABOUT
The basic function of the Disease investigation and surveillance program at East Central District Health Department is to reduce the risk or prevent the spread of infectious diseases. The department assists the communicable disease division of Nebraska Health and Human Services by interviewing, reporting and arranging treatment for persons exposed to the infectious diseases.
East Central District Health Departments, school surveillance program reports the absenteeism of ill students throughout the school year for fifty-seven schools within the ECDHD's four-county service area. School surveillance for early detection of illness among the 10,681 students attending these 57 schools is done on a weekly basis and reported to Nebraska Health and Human Services in Lincoln every Wednesday.
